Thin - film Deposition technician

Job Description

Alice & Bob is developing the first universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer to solve the world’s hardest problems.

The quantum computer we envision building is based on a new kind of superconducting qubit: the Schrödinger cat qubit. In comparison to other superconducting platforms, cat qubits have the astonishing ability to implement quantum error correction autonomously!

We are at the forefront of the quantum race, competing with tech giants such as Google or IBM, and we are growing fast after securing  €100 million of funding in 2025 to develop our unique technology.

Currently 100+ and counting, between physicists, PhD students, engineers and experienced business professionals, we are united to reach our ambitious goal. Are you a quantum pioneer? Join us on a mission to reshape the future!

Inside the Quantum Hardware department, the Nanofabrication team is in charge of producing the superconducting circuits that serve as a basis of our quantum computer. The manufacturing process involves using thin film deposition and patterning methods (evaporation, etching, lithography…) performed in a cleanroom environment. The team is in charge of developing and improving the process, and manufactures the prototype chips of the company.

Are you passionate about cutting-edge technology and eager to work on groundbreaking innovations in quantum computing?

As a Thin Film Deposition Technician at Alice & Bob, you'll play a pivotal role in the fabrication of superconducting circuits—critical components for next-generation quantum processors. You'll be working with state-of-the-art vacuum evaporation and lithography tools, unlocking new possibilities for process optimization.

This role combines technical expertise with hands-on problem-solving, requiring you to take ownership of tool supervision, diagnostics, and maintenance while executing precise fabrication processes. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to a revolutionary field while collaborating with experts and traveling to partner technology platforms in the Île-de-France region. If you’re a tech enthusiast with a drive for precision and a passion for quantum technology, we want you on our team!

Responsibilities:

  • Operate cutting-edge deposition tools to fabricate production and R&D wafers, ensuring the highest standards of quality and precision.
  • Conduct routine checks, calibrations, and characterizations of the equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintain meticulous process and equipment documentation, including daily logs and detailed records of activities.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to keep the equipment running smoothly.
  • Collaborate closely with a dynamic team to evolve and refine fabrication processes.
  • Identify and implement improvements in hardware capabilities to enhance production efficiency.
  • Requirements:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Mechatronics, etc.).
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience working with vacuum technologies, material science, or physical instrumentation.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Hands-on experience in a cleanroom environment.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and strong manual dexterity.
  • Proficiency in understanding operating manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Key Competencies:
  • Fluent in professional English.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • A proactive, curious, and committed attitude toward work and personal development.
  • Desirable: Experience in the semiconductor industry is a plus.
