WHY this position is of utmost importance to reach our mission

Pennylane is scaling fast — and so is our ambition to be a truly data-driven company. Our self-service stack is there (Metabase, Amplitude, Data Catalog), and we want to reinforce ownership and standards so it can scale with the company. The goal is simple: make data autonomy easy for every team, with the right guardrails for trust, quality, and compliance.

As our Data Product Manager, you will own our entire data self-service ecosystem. You will treat internal data products (dashboards, metrics, tooling, documentation) like a PM treats a user-facing product: with a clear vision, a roadmap, and strong attention to user needs.

Your mission is to make every team at Pennylane confidently data-autonomous, so we can scale impact without scaling costs.

HOW you will contribute to the company

Reporting to the Head of Data, you will sit at the intersection of data, product, and operations, partnering closely with Data Engineering, Data Analytics, and business teams (Finance, Marketing, Product, Ops).

  • Own and administrate our core self-service stack: Metabase, Amplitude, Data Catalog.

  • Act as the internal Product Manager for company-wide dashboards: prioritize demand, deprecate outdated content, and ensure reliability and clarity.

  • Define and enforce governance for Metabase: content hierarchy, access rights, and a clear process to certify trusted dashboards.

  • Drive the adoption of the Data Catalog as a living documentation product: definitions, metadata standards, and a business glossary.

  • Facilitate cross-functional working groups to align on foundational business metric definitions, and own the company-wide Key Metrics Dictionary, keeping it accessible and up to date.

  • Be the primary point of contact for Data Producer teams (Tech, CRM/Salesforce squad) to translate business needs into upstream data requirements.

  • Monitor the data tooling landscape and propose new tools or improvements that increase access, trust, and efficiency.

  • Establish simple metrics to measure adoption and effectiveness: active user rates, satisfaction surveys, and internal NPS.

WHAT you can expect from your life at Pennylane

Within one month:

  • You will get a clear picture of Pennylane’s teams, objectives, and decision-making rituals.

  • You will map the current self-service journey end-to-end (users, use cases, pain points, and existing assets).

  • You will audit the current stack (Metabase, Amplitude, Catalog) and identify quick wins for clarity, reliability, and discoverability.

Within 3 months:

  • You will define a clear vision and roadmap for data self-service, with measurable outcomes.

  • You will formalize the Certified Data process and oversee the certification of the most critical dashboards and datasets.

  • You will define and kick off the right cross-team rituals (working groups, office hours, and stakeholder touchpoints) to build long-term trust in data product and self-service.

  • You will reduce the top friction points in the self-service journey through concrete product and process changes.

Within 6 months:

  • You will have a sustainable operating model in place for governance, metric definitions, and documentation.

  • You will deliver the first iteration of the Data Literacy Program (onboarding + role-based training paths).

  • You will show measurable improvement in adoption and user satisfaction.

  • You will scale self-service practices across teams while maintaining trust, consistency, and compliance.

And beyond:

  • You will keep evolving Pennylane’s self-service ecosystem as the company scales, ensuring it remains simple, trusted, and efficient.

  • You will be recognized as the company’s go-to person for data product and self-service use cases.

  • You will take on broader responsibilities as the Data function grows: leading larger cross-team initiatives, and helping onboard and ramp up new team members and key stakeholders on our self-service practices.

Who are we looking for?

You’re the right candidate if you:

  • Have experience owning and improving internal data products, like dashboards, metrics, documentation, or analytics tooling.

  • Are comfortable working with data stakeholders end-to-end: understanding a business problem, translating it into data requirements, and validating that the output is trusted and usable.

  • Know how to set pragmatic governance standards that enable autonomy, not bureaucracy. For example, clear definitions, ownership, access rules, and certification processes.

  • Have worked with BI and product analytics environments and understand the day-to-day realities of self-service: discoverability, reliability, data quality, and “one source of truth”.

  • Can facilitate alignment across teams on metric definitions and ways of working, even without direct authority.

  • Are able to define a vision, prioritize a roadmap, and measure adoption with simple indicators and user feedback.

  • Are comfortable with SQL and data concepts and can collaborate effectively with Data Engineering and Analytics on upstream requirements.

  • Communicate clearly and enjoy teaching, documenting, and enabling others through training and support.

  • Thrive in a fast-moving environment and like building structure where it is still emerging.

What does the recruitment process look like?

  • A first interview with our Talent Acquisition Manager

  • A case study interview to discuss a topic closely related to one of our priorities

  • A past project interview to hear about your experience

  • An interview with our Tech & Product leaders to discuss our company culture
